Founder & Chief Technology Officer

At LabRat Consulting, we believe science is about people first. Laboratories serve patients. Sites serve communities. Behind every sample is a human story. That perspective shapes how we lead.

Michael and I built LabRat Consulting on shared values. Ethics. Transparency. Respect for the sites we support. We believe partners deserve clarity, honest communication, and systems they can trust. No hidden complexity. No unnecessary barriers.

Michael brings deep scientific expertise. I build the infrastructure that supports it. Together, we create a culture where integrity comes first, where sites feel empowered rather than overwhelmed, and where technology serves people, not the other way around.

Oh yes, and we have fun whilst we’re doing that!

Tom’s Personal Journey:

Building Across Borders. Building With Purpose.

I grew up in Belgium. I was always curious about how things fit together. That curiosity led me to study architecture in Scotland. There I learned to think in systems that serve people first. Structure. Balance. Intentional design with improved human experiences as the core goal.

But I started building long before that. At 16, I was already exploring computer systems. Technology became my medium. Not just to build software. I love exploring tools to provide the right solution for specific problems.

I spent eight years in Chicago as Information Director at the Illinois Medical District’s Chicago Technology Park. I supported biotech startups as they scaled from idea to execution.

I later returned to Belgium where I started my own Web Business IT consulting firm. I helped national and international organizations simplify complex operations and connect disconnected systems.

Charleston was home from 2003 through 2024. My work there expanded into biotech, healthcare, and non-profit activism. During the pandemic, I built the technological infrastructure for ActionPPE.org in service of the Charleston County Medical Society. The platform delivered more than 5 million pieces of PPE to independent physicians across 40 states. At a critical moment, the system held.

Today I am based in Atlanta, where I am building the IT headquarters that supports our laboratory operations and future growth.

Turning Complexity Into Momentum

I have served as CTO for two lab organizations. At a blood collection center, I unified sales and delivery into one integrated database system. What was fragmented became manageable and provided the needed processes to move forward.

At another PBMC focused laboratory, I developed client portals that sponsors described as the best they had ever used. I streamlined internal workflows and improved coordination with couriers and scheduling teams. Operations became transparent. Communication became proactive. Turnaround became predictable.

These experiences shaped how I lead.

At LabRat Consulting, I design the technical backbone behind our training, mobile lab operations and PBMC workflows. My focus is simple. Remove friction. Connect systems. Let science move forward with confidence.

Always Building

I enjoy traveling and learning new technologies. I am constantly exploring better tools and smarter architectures. Not for novelty. Anything we do, needs to have meaningful impact.
